A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A RHINOPLASTY

A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A RHINOPLASTY

In this blog I would like to itemise the requirements that make one a good candidate for a rhinoplasty.

 1.      Age limit

The lowest age is considered to be 17 years old for females and 18 years old for males due to the finalization of the facial feautures growth. Only in rare medical cases it can be performed at 16 years old. The upper limit can be said as 40 years old as the elasticity of the skin decreases and healing is delayed. Furthermore, patients over 40 years old are less open to the changes and require more time for adaptation rather than the younger patients as have been living with that nose shapes for their entire lives.

2.      Medical condition

Rhinoplasty is an elective surgery, therefore patients should have a relatively good health. It is especially important as the rhinoplasty performed under general anesthesia which involves serious risks including a death risk. Chronic diseases, critically low iron level, bleeding disorders and diseases like HBsAG/ HCV/ HIV are contradictions for a surgery.

3.      Realistic expectations

Since every nose is unique just like the facial features the aim in rhinoplasty should be achieving natural look which is compatible with the patient’s facial features, not a celebrity’s or someone else’s. Especially when it comes to the reduction rhinoplasty one needs to know that there is always a limit how much a nose can be reduced without compromising the functionality of the nose. The nose can be reduced as much the current tissues allow that to do. Thus, it is not realistic to expect a pointy, tiny nose when having a huge and wide nose. A nose job is not about a perfection, but a significant improvement. It would be great to visit Before & After Rhinoplasty pictures to see the change.

4.       Type of skin

Thin skin shows better the fine workmanship performed in the underlying structures and requires a shorter time for healing compared to the thick skin. Thick skinned patients can also have a Closed Atraumatic Rhinoplasty after certain treatments directed to improve the quality of the skin and make it thinner. These treatments are required to optimise the final outcome. Both thick and thin skin patients can have a Closed Atraumatic Rhinoplasty, it would be great to get in touch with the certified and experienced plastic surgeon to talk details.

5.  Non smoker

As Assoc.Prof.Dr.Suleyman TAS pays great attention to the health, a smoker needs to quit smoking at least 6 (six) months before the rhinoplasty surgery (the amount of time needed for detoxication) and never smoke again after the surgery as it damages and delays the healing process. Smoking here considers not only the cigarettes but vape, shisha, cannabis and so on.

Finally, a good candidate is the one who is well-determined, physically and mentally ready for the upcoming changes not only on the face but the whole life.
